Day 5 - Sept. 13 Ancora to A Guarda

15 kms
Today we left Portugal and entered Spain. In this picture we are standing in Portugal looking across to Spain. The guide book says it is a 1.7 km swim or a quick ferry ride. We chose the ferry ride.

Before we got on the ferry we stopped to pick up some fruit for the ride.

Once we got into Galacia, Spain the up and down walking started.

Day 4 - Sept. 12

Viana do Castelo to Ancora - 22 kms
This is a picture taken looking out of our window from the place we stayed for the night. A beautiful church on top of a mountain.

We walked along the shore for a long time.

Stopped to pile stones along the way.

Passed a sign today. 165 kms to go.

Tide was up when we arrived at our hostel so we had to walk across some water. I was out in front and didn't think of stopping to take off my hiking boots...the rest of the gang did.

Day 3 - Sept. 11 Esposende to Viana do Castelo

28 kms.
We started the day with a little rain.

Came across this ceramic tile art work of Saint James as we walked.

Had to cross a bridge on our way.

Lots of climbing up and down in this section of the walk.

Kms to go...

Only 212 kms to go.

Day 2 continued

Wow we walked by a golf course. Well not actually by but let's say near a golf course. I managed to convince my walking mates that it would be worth adding a few kms to our 25 km walk so we left the path and went to the course for a beer.

Passed some beautiful churches along the way.

Crossed this bridge and turned left to find our hotel for the night.

Walking Day 2 - Vila do Conde to Esposende

Vila do Conde to Esposende - 25 kms
Out the door at 7 am. Beautiful day for a walk.

Stopped for mass along the way. After all the large churches we visited we happened to stop for mass at one of the smallest churches in Portugal. It was standing room only for us and even that got filled up.

Lit a candle and said a prayer for my friends and family.

It is very beautiful walking along the ocean coast.

Well I can't linger too long as I still have far to go before I arrive at Santiago.
